Things To Know

The wedding will be held at a venue in Uluwatu Bali, which is the far south of the island. For the days specifically surrounding the wedding, for hotels, airbnbs, etc.. we’d suggest searching in these areas:

Pandawa, Ungasan, or Melasti Beach: Closest to wedding site, beautiful beaches for ultimate relaxation but not the liveliest of areas if you’re looking to get out on the town (we’ll have plenty of party opportunities with wedding)

Bingin, Pecatu, Dreamland Beach: Great spots within 20-30 min car from venue. Lots of cute cafes and some nightlife within short car ride

We would not recommend driving in Bali as the traffic can be brutal and the roadways here have their own set of “local rules” (passing on sidewalks, turning on the inside of oncoming traffic at intersections, ect..). If you are very familiar driving motorbikes, you can rent a scooter, but keep it area by area around your stay. Don’t travel on highways or long distances unless out on the smaller islands or northern villages where there is less tourist traffic.

Download Gojek (Bali über but must pay cash) or Grab (can add credit card): The ultimate apps for Bali providing easy safe transport via private car or scooter taxis (must try). They also have an amazing delivery service for food orders or if you need something from the grocery store.

Google Translate: Most on island speak English, especially within tourism zones, but it’s always helpful if any miscommunication or to make sure locals know exactly what you’re wanting/needing.

Tips: Appreciated but not required or expected. Small additional change or a dollar or two would be met with great appreciation and surprise, in most cases.

Bali Belly: People make a big deal of this online, but it is not food poisoning, nor is not unlike any other travel destination. Any time you travel internationally, the culture will most likely be cooking with different oils, spices, ect..  so give it a couple days to adjust before you go to the local market to try your hand at Bali’s local delicacies. Bali has some of the most incredible food in the world and is known as a “foodie paradise” mostly because of all the westernized cafes and dining experiences. We’re happy to give recommendations for local food once you’d arrived: places to go, foods to try.

Sunscreen: Bali sun can be tough for those not accustomed. Many things in Bali are extremely cheap, unfortunately  sunscreen isn’t one of them.  We would suggest buying at duty free at airport when arriving in Bali or packing your own bottle.

Last Thing: For those that haven’t traveled much internationally… besides for the long trip, you can leave your stress at home. Bali is an incredible place with an amazing culture, a very low crime rate (almost zero violent crime), and some of the friendliest people you will ever meet! Once you arrive, relax, and let us show you why we are lucky to call this beautiful place home.
